"It takes a real man to admit this, but my wife thinks I look better in your dad’s caricature of me than I do in person." Dick Cavett Nov. 27, 2024

Of all the drawings my father did this one of Dame Judith is drawn on the highest quality paper. I love the watermark in the lower left corner. The paper befits the actress.
I became a big fan of hers when I first saw Alfred Hitchcock's film, "Rebecca" where she play's the role of the wonderfully creepy Mrs. Danvers.
I saw her (Nov.12, 1966) on Broadway in Maxwell Anderson's "Elizabeth the Queen." I went backstage after the performance to get her autograph, and I am looking at it now as I write this. Just realized I now have 2 Dame Judith autographs.(The only other time I waited backstage for an autograph was for the great Gwen Verdon when she was performing the musical "Sweet Charity" at the Palace Theater. Saw it twice. I knew about Gwen as a kid because my parents were big fans after having seen her on Broadway in "Damn Yankees." My parents had good taste.)
I have to be honest and say the production of " Elizabeth the Queen" was not very good but I didn't care. I was in the same theater as Dame Judith.
