"It takes a real man to admit this, but my wife thinks I look better in your dad’s caricature of me than I do in person." Dick Cavett Nov. 27, 2024
My father painting in the early 1950's. In the back you can see the puppet heads dad carved in the early 1940's of Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey and the band leader Kay Kyser.

I have titled this painting, in honor of Mondrian, "Cavett Boogie-Woogie."

"Venezia" - Ink Drawing by Tommy Kay
Original 14 1/2" x 23"
This pen and ink of Venice was inspired by our trip to Italy in the summer of 1965.
Here is Cavett as if painted by Rembrandt, Mondrian, Picasso, van Gogh, Cezanne, a group of Chinese prints and a French etching at the court of Louis XVI.
I think this was part of a series of paintings my father did of recording studios.
This and the following "Guitar Etude" Cezanne Christmas card and "Backstage" are in the collection of the family of the legendary guitaist, and my Godfather, Tony Mottola. Tony played an important part in getting my father his first jobs in New York after he left the Jimmy Dorsey band.
From one guitarist to another.
Dick Cavett in the style of Paul Cezanne.
Painted in 1958. In the collection of Nina Mottola Depietro. She sent me a beautiful note on how much the painting means to her, "It is the one thing I have from Mommy and Daddy's house that makes my house feel most like home to me."
