Stokley Carmichael Bio (Wikipedia)
Cavett was famous for hosting a number of controversial personalities, whether they be in sports, the arts, athletes or politicians, and devoting entire shows to the civil rights movement, Vietnam, the feminist movement and Watergate.
America, in 1970, was going through major political and social changes, Stokley was certainly one of the major figures deeply involved in both.
A funny note: Also appearing on the show that night were the actress Shelly Winters and a demonstration, by the World Champ, of pancake flipping.
